There is no useful universal distance for every panel. Distance changes the light reaching an area and can change how evenly the light spreads.
Use the device instructions first
The manufacturer should state a recommended treatment distance or range. That recommendation belongs to the design and output of that device.
Distance and irradiance are connected
Moving away from a light source changes irradiance at the treatment surface. Beam geometry and LED arrangement also affect the pattern. Irradiance claims are more useful when the measurement distance is disclosed.
Coverage changes too
Greater distance may spread light across a broader area while a closer position can concentrate exposure. The exact pattern depends on the panel.
